Rugby
Northern Football Club have been playing rugby since 1876
and have been at McCracken Park for 65 years..
Over the years, they have had 30 internationals in the side including
Scott Hastings who is the most capped Scottish back in history.
Northern first team currently play in Durham and Northumberland Division
1 which encompasses some of the better local league local clubs from the
counties of Durham and Northumberland.
There are currently two other adult sides at Northern, the Wanderers and
Thirds, who play in the Northumberland junior leagues.
The Gypsies are a social side who blend youth with a lot of experience.
A "lot of experience" in this context refers to the ages of some of the
more senior players.

Rugby training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.45 pm.
New players are always welcome.
Youth Rugby
For rugby fun and friendship, the place to be is with the junior section
at McCracken Park on a Sunday morning.
Northern has one of the most vibrant youth sections in the county with
over 150 players with ages ranging from 6 to 17 years.
The emphasis is on enjoyment and it certainly seems to work.
Most age groups have two coaches to ensure proper techniques are learned
as well as to maintain safety standards.
Parents are welcome to come and watch matches and any parent who wishes
to take a more active role would be most welcome.
